Dan Doyle
Dan Doyle Queens resident, is a studio and event photographer based in Jackson Heights, Queens, New York. His expertise in various locations and styles of photography makes him a valued part of the New York City arts community. He grew up in Pleasantville, Ohio, where he participated in sports and clubs as well as learning the basics of photography.
A high school art teacher suggested that he should consider going to college and studying photography, so he went to Ohio State University at Columbus. After college, he considered going directly into the workforce, but he decided to take a gap year and explore Europe. He hiked and took trains throughout the continent, exploring the various cultures and landscapes that Europe had to offer. After he returned from his gap year, he moved to New York City where he later opened his studio.
Doyle’s repertoire slowly evolved from in-studio work only to weddings and events. He also enjoys photographing landscapes and architecture. As he became an experienced wedding photographer, he also took up videography.

What do you know about the real estate industry?
To be honest, I don’t know that much about the real estate industry. Most of my experience comes only from buying one apartment where I currently live.
Have you ever sold real estate? How did you make it happen?
I haven’t sold real estate, I have only bought it. I have been looking for a larger studio and loft space to accommodate my work, so I assume that at some point in the near future I will have experience in this field.
How much experience do you have in buying or selling real estate?
Not a lot, I have bought only one apartment. I have to say that buying in New York City is something that gives you a lot of experience very quickly. New York is an amazing place but it is also a pressure cooker, especially in the real estate sector. I had to make an offer very quickly on my current apartment or I would have lost it.
Have you ever made a sell or a purchase you have regretted?
No, I haven’t. I love my apartment even if it is getting a bit small for my liking. I did regret renting my first apartment, that place was terrible. Luckily, I only had to live there for a year.
What advice would you give inexperienced who are wanting to buy or sell?
Be sure that you fully understand what you’re getting into. Don’t neglect getting a home inspector just because you’re only buying an apartment. You need to know about the condition of the whole building, including the roof, the basement, and the electrical system. It would be terrible to move into a great apartment and then to have your stuff damaged in case the building had major issues.
What have you found out to be the best way to market property?
Honestly, I used home search websites to find my place. I bought my apartment in 2000, so there weren’t all of the great mobile apps that people use nowadays, but I was able to do quite a bit through the MLS online. When I found the property I wanted to look at, I didn’t have much time to decide because there were two other people who were interested in buying it. I had to move fast.
What tools do you believe are essential for success in the real estate industry?
Real estate taught me to strike while the iron is hot. I was nervous to buy a property with so little time to think about it, but I was able to make up my mind quickly. The next time I look for a new apartment, I hope that I have more time to compare places. I am glad that this purchase worked out as well as it did. I do love my apartment.
What has real estate taught you about life?
Making quick decisions is important in all areas of life. When you’re stuck on a question and can’t decide what to do, you waste your own valuable time and dig yourself into a hole. It’s terrible to lose out on things because you sat around too long trying to decide. It’s better to be decisive and to move right away.
Do you have a mentor who taught you what you know?
I didn’t have a mentor in real estate, but I definitely have mentors where photography is concerned. My high school art teacher fostered my love of the art when I was a teenager. She showed me that photography could be a great professional career. My parents were kind of doubtful that I could make a living in photography, but I have a successful career.
Do you have a feedback system? How does it work?
My major feedback system is online reviews. Facebook, Yelp, and Google reviews are all big parts of my business. When you’re conducting a business these days, you really do need to understand how online feedback works. I always work with my customers to make sure that they are as satisfied as possible at the end of a shoot.
