What do you know about the real estate industry?
Over the years, I have learned a significant amount about the real estate industry in both my personal and business life when I moved around Connecticut as my career improved. Regarding buying and selling real estate, I purchased my home in New Canaan so I could be close to New York and my business contacts. As a front-end developer, many of my clients are in the real estate business, so I have a good understanding of the marketing needs of real estate businesses from single person offices to major chains across the U.S.
Have you ever sold real estate? How did you make it happen?
The only real estate I have ever sold has been on a personal level which was my first home I sold to move to New Canaan when I felt I needed more space for my family and business to grow. To sell this property, I contacted a client who I designed the front-end user interface for and understood their Online presence would aid in the sale of my property.
How much experience do you have in buying or selling real estate?
As I said, I’m solely a person who has been involved in the buying and selling of properties for myself, and I do like to involve a professional agent in my search which always makes it simpler. I enjoy searching for a new home and getting involved in the buying process including negotiating prices which I get involved in but also take the advice of others when making decisions about buying a property.
Have you ever made a sell or a purchase you have regretted?
Not really. I bought and sold a home in New Haven which I loved and wish I could have afforded to keep both that property and my new house in New Canaan, but I have enjoyed all the properties I have bought.
What advice would you give inexperienced who are wanting to buy or sell?
Always do your research. As a business leader and homeowner, I believe the need to understand exactly what you are buying and where it is located is key to getting a foothold in real estate. Also, trust your professional agent. I have learned so much from my agent I don’t know how I would be able to make any real estate transaction without her.
What have you found out to be the best way to market property?
I’m a front-end developer, so I understand the power of Online marketing. It’s important to keep your users happy and aware of the potential of any home so keeping pictures and text concise but looking good is all important, in my opinion.
What tools do you believe are essential for success in the real estate industry?
Communication skills. It’s imperative you know how to handle clients successfully. My agent comes in and talks like we are old friends because we are, but when she needs to be professional, I see an instant change in the way she addresses me and carries herself.
What has real estate taught you about life?
Real estate has taught me to take nothing for granted as a sudden change can make all the difference in life. Before I moved to New Canaan, I was looking at a few different houses in the area, and one I wanted came on the market but had some issues which made getting a mortgage difficult to complete. If I would have invested in that first house things would have turned out completely different, but I couldn’t be happier where I am in life now.
How can you use what you have learned in real estate to succeed in other areas?
The real estate sector is a big part of my business, so I know how important it is to my life at all times. Regarding bringing something to my own life, I feel I have learned to pull the trigger on a deal in a more concise way than I did in the past because of my real estate purchases.
Do you have a mentor who taught you what you know?
My agent has been phenomenal with myself and my family in finding and negotiating deals. She also put me in contact with an experienced mortgage broker who got us a great deal on the New Canaan home loan. In fact, she has been so amazing I once classed her as a client, but she is now a friend.
Do you have a feedback system? How does it work?
For my business, we encourage clients and customers to leave messages and reviews on our Website and via Email which I look through. On a personal level, with my real estate agent, I have left countless positive reviews on various Sites to show just how impressive her work has been.
