What do you know about the real estate industry?
I would have to say I don’t know much about real estate, not yet anyway. I mostly rented until my wife and I bought our house 2 years ago.
Have you ever sold real estate? How did you make it happen?
No. I was on the buying end of that real estate deal. My wife and I knew exactly what we were looking for so we went out and found it.
How much experience do you have in buying or selling real estate?
For me, renting was all the experience I had in real estate experience up until the purchase of my house. If and when we decide to move again I will definitely use what I have learned in the processed. Things that I never really thought about before, bargaining tools such as, how old is the boiler? What shape are the windows in? Are the heating and cooling units up to date? These could work to the advantage for the both the seller and buyer.
Have you ever made a sell or a purchase you have regretted?
No. As I mentioned my wife and I knew what we wanted and we could not be happier with our decision.
What advice would you give inexperienced who are wanting to buy or sell?
Know what the key factors are. How are the school systems around where you live? What have other houses in your area gone for? What if anything needs to be updated? What is your property value worth? All of these things come into play when buying or selling a house.
What have you found out to be the best way to market property?
For me? A real estate agent, ha-ha-ha. They know what they are doing. Whether it is their own personal website, business website or social media page for that matter, they know how to write something that will catch the eye of the buyer.
What tools do you believe are essential for success in the real estate industry?
Knowledge. Knowledge is the best tool no matter what industry you are in.
What has real estate taught you about life?
Responsibility. Not that I wasn’t a responsible person before but renting and owning are two completely different things. When I was renting, if something was broken I could call the landlord. When you own a house, everything is your responsibility.
How can you use what you have learned in real estate to succeed in other areas?
I think people in general, learn more about themselves and their desires. They also learn how to become more vocal in a respectful manner. Buying or selling a house isn’t like choosing what laundry detergent to buy. It is a huge decision that one makes and you have to know what is you want and not settle for anything less.
